My 'Twister'

I wrote this poem as a sayonara for my dear friend, Neti, whom I fondly call Twister (short for twin sister) when she left Navsari and went to Meerut in 2009.

Oh! What a law of nature unfair!
When a good friend, so precious, so rare,
Slips through your hands like sand
Never again will you her sweet voice hear
Or envisage in your mind her countenance clear
How can I forget you, dear friend?
When you go to an unfamiliar place,
a place where you'll start,
a second life, leaving me deserted
in the valleys of misery, all alone??

We met in the bus, I remember vaguely
You asked me my name.
And since then we smiled, we laughed
at sweet nothings. Indeed charming!
But you mesmerised me more
with the innocent yet mischievous
gleam of your eyes. I'll miss it,
and you! 'Mischief in miniature'!!
But now that you're going, I do ask
a small favour. Remember, remember
and just remember, me forever - Your 'Twin sister'
